Paul is Paul I, 1754–1801, czar of Russia (1796–1801), son and successor of Catherine II. His mother disliked him intensely and sought on several occasions to change the succession to his disadvantage.  a newcomer to an expensive, exclusive private school in Miami; his mother works there so he gets to go even though she could never afford the tuition. Although he is bright, he is lonely at school. His mother leans on him too much and his dad (who has a new wife) ignores him. Paul badly wants to belong, have friends; but he is picked on instead. Finally he is befriended by manipulative ma·nip·u·la·tive
