TOP Welsh entrepreneurs are being urged to put Wales on the map by challenging for honours.

The awards will focus on international trade, innovation and sustainable development Sustainable development is a socio-ecological process characterized by the fulfilment of human needs while maintaining the quality of the natural environment indefinitely. The linkage between environment and development was globally recognized in 1980, when the International Union .

A new category is being launched this year for those who play a significant role in encouraging entrepreneurial skills and attitudes.

The Queen's Award for Enterprise The Queen's Award for Enterprise is an award for British companies and other organizations who excel at international trade, innovation or sustainable development. The prestigious award is the greatest accolade a British company can receive.  Promotion is designed to reward an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the development and promotion of an enterprise culture in the UK, nationally or among specific communities.

Steve Ellis, of Wrexham-based Hoy a Lens, who won the 2002 Queen's Award for International Trade, said winning was a fantastic boost for the company.

``It made many of our customers aware of just how good a business we have here in North Wales North Wales (known in some archaic texts as Northgalis) is the northernmost unofficial region of Wales, bordered to the south by Mid Wales and to the east by England.  and heightened our profile globally within Hoy a Corporation, '' he added.

Up to 10 awards will be granted each year, and in addition a single Lifetime Achievement Award may go to an individual.

Welsh economic minister Andrew Davies said: ``The Queen's Awards for Enterprise provides an ideal platform for public acknowledgement of the extraordinary talent that exists amongst Wales's business community.

``The new award for enterprise promotion will highlight the enterprising spirit and dynamic nature of individuals who exemplify the best of innovation and creativity. ''

 chief executive Rob Thomas said: ``I would urge any company which considers itself good enough to qualify for an award -- and we know there are a number of them through Wales -- to contact us immediately. ''

Nominations forms for the 2005 awards, together with background and guidance notes are available on the Queen's Awards Office web site on www. queensawards. org. uk and entries must be received by October 31, 2004.

The Queen's Awards breakfast roads how will visit Miskin Manor Hotel, Llantrisant, on September 9 and the Lion Quays, Moreton, near Chirk, on September 14.

WTI says more than 80 companies want to attend the free shows.
