Moves Into New Headquarters, Secures $3.5M Series B Funding

Opticalis, creator of revolutionary, patent-pending Super Wavelength Division Multiplexing (SWDM) optical technology -- designed to cost-effectively resolve Metro market bottlenecks by increasing bandwidth transmission across existing infrastructure -- has experienced a surge of growth and expansion in the U.S. including the opening of new headquarters, initial Series B funding and a newly appointed president and CEO. Accordingly, the company has named its new president and CEO, Glen Riley.

Mr. Riley previously served as Vice President and General Manager of the Optical Core Networks Division of Agere Systems (Lucent Technologies' Microelectronics Group), responsible for the overall product strategy and P&L of that division. Prior to this, Mr. Riley held positions as Lucent Technologies Microelectronics Group Asia-Pacific Region President responsible for $1 billion in annual revenue, and Lucent Technologies Storage Products General Manager, becoming the market leader in hard disk drive read channels. Prior to Lucent, Mr. Riley held marketing and sales positions with Philips Semiconductor and Texas Instruments.

"I am pleased to join this innovative optical networking company," said Mr. Riley, Opticalis' president and chief executive officer. "Opticalis will enable essential efficiencies for metro core and access networks. I am looking forward to bringing this technology to market and leading the charge for new investment."

HOW OPTICALIS SWDM WORKS

Opticalis' ground-breaking Super Wavelength Division Multiplexing (SWDM) involves the creation of a family of wavelengths tied to a main carrier laser wavelength found in a typical Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing See WDM.  (DWDM (Dense WDM) The term given to wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) when significantly more channels were being added. Since WDM is increasingly more "dense" all the time, both terms are used synonymously. See WDM.

) system. These scalable sub-carriers or sub-wavelengths can then be individually addressed, multiplexed, added, dropped, switched, and de-multiplexed. Since they are located in the optical physical layer, by definition they are protocol and data rate independent, a key advantage over Time Division Multiplexed (TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) A technology that transmits multiple signals simultaneously over a single transmission path. Each lower-speed signal is time sliced into one high-speed transmission. ) systems.

Opticalis' solutions are ideal for Metro Core/Metro Access networks, short haul, business rings and LANs, as well as small business and residential applications.

ABOUT OPTICALIS

Founded in October of 2000, Opticalis creates products for systems manufacturers that enable and enhance communications service provider A Communications Service Provider or CSP is a company that transports information electronically. The term encompasses public and private companies in the wireline, wireless, Internet, cable, satellite, and managed services businesses.  solutions. The company's mission is to deploy its SWDM technology to increase the capability and flexibility of optical communication systems at less than half the cost of traditional networks. Opticalis' technology increases the total amount and flexibility of information transmitted over cost-effective single wavelength optical fiber, while lowering capital and operating expenses Operating expenses

(cost-per-bit). Additional benefits of Opticalis products include reduced time to market, ease of integration, reduced cost of ownership for OEMs, and built-in cost reductions from future products. Current investors include: Ridgewood VC (US), GCP VC (US), Auriga VC (France) and various Angels. Opticalis is based in Center Valley, Pennsylvania, with research offices in Rehovot, Israel.
