Brazzaville seminar asks action on Namibia.

The Security Council should be convened urgently to ensure the implementation of Council resolution 435 (1978) containing the United Nations plan for the independence of Namibia.

That recommendation was made by participants in a seminar on the intensification of international action for the immediate independence of Namibia, held at Brazzaville, Congo, from 25 to 29 March. Participants in the seminar--organized by the United Nations Council for Namibia and hosted by the Government of the Congo--included representatives of non-governmental organizations and national support groups, parliamentarians, trade unionists, scholars and experts from academic institutions, prominent personalities, and representatives of United Nations Members and United Nations bodies from around the world.

Alexandros Vikis (Cyprus), Chairman of the seminar, said South Africa South Africa, Afrikaans Suid-Afrika, officially Republic of South Africa, republic (2005 est. pop. 44,344,000), 471,442 sq mi (1,221,037 sq km), S Africa.  had been encouraged in persisting in its intransigent attitude by the cooperation extended to it by its major Western allies The Western Allies were the democracies and their colonial peoples, within the broader coalition of Allies during World War II. The United States had imposed sanctions against Iran This article outlines economic, trade, scientific and military Sanctions against Iran, which has been imposed by the U.S. government, or under U.S. pressure. Currently the sanctions include a total embargo on dealings with Iran by Americans, threatening the world's oil and gas , Nicaragua, Cuba and Poland; why was it so for some countries and not in the case of Namibia? he asked.

The seminar called for the imposition of comprehensive mandatory sactions under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. Pending the imposition of mandatory sanctions by the Security Council, the seminar called upon Governments and institutions to intensify the campaign to isolate South Africa through disinvestment Disinvestment

The United States Administration was urged to abandon the "so-called policy of constructive engagement" towards South Africa.
