Hawaiian Rochelle Ballard defeated Australian Trudy Todd to win the $30,000 Gotcha Girl Star Pro.

Padaratz stormed through the final, linking enough maneuvers in the two foot surf to land scoring waves of 8.25, 7.50 and 6.75 to finish with 22.50 points overall to Gouveia's 19.25. Attempting to return to the WCT, Padaratz made a huge step forward in the past two weeks, building his World Qualifying Series points at last week's ShockWave U.S. Open of Surfing and his confidence this week. To reach the Gotcha Pro victory stand and claim his $15,000 first place prize, Padaratz downed several of the top surfers in the world including number one-rated Mark Occhilupo (Australia).

"In these conditions you have to surf every wave like it's the last one you're going to get," said Padaratz. "I'm trying to re-qualify for the tour and this helps my confidence." The $15,000 will help his pocketbook. "I'm going to be able to pay my bills now."

The highest finishing American was Sunny Garcia (Hawaii) who fell to Padaratz in the semi-finals to receive an equal third. San Clemente's Shea Lopez and reigning world champion Kelly Slater (Florida) both finished equal fifth.

Hawaiian big wave rider Rochelle Ballard turned into a small wave specialist to defeat Australian Trudy Todd to win the Gotcha Girl Star Pro final and its $6,000 first prize. Ballard set the pace by opening up with a 6.25 wave and never looked back in "doubling up" on Todd, winning 19.35 points to 8.80 points and jumping to sixth place in the rankings.

The Gotcha Pro featured the world's top 44 professional men and top 15 women and was the finale of the inaugural $400,000 Panasonic ShockWave Beach Games. The two-week extreme sports festival featured in-line skating, BMX BMX
