Brazil hit by deadly floods.

Floods and mudslides caused by heavy rains in northern Brazil have killed at least 30 people and almost 200,000 driven from their homes over the last several months, authorities say.

"We are having difficulties getting help to people because many roads have been swept away with the floods," said Abner Ferreira, a civil defence official in Maranhao, the hardest-hit state where at least eight people have died, on Wednesday.

Silva promised aid to repair infrastructure, and voiced concerns that global climate change could be responsible for the unusually heavy rains and destruction.
