Brazil: Body and Soul.SOLOMON R. GUGGENHEIM Meyer Guggenheim, 1828–1905, b. Aargau canton, Switzerland, emigrated (1847) to the United States, prospered as a retail merchant in Philadelphia, and in time built up a flourishing business importing Swiss embroidery. When nearly 60 he purchased from friends some Colorado mining property. Sensing that sure profits were in processing rather than in mining, he built large smelters in Colorado and Mexico and a refinery at Perth Amboy, N.J. MUSEUM The Guggenheim's done China. It's done Africa. But if Brazil sounds a tad more manageable, it's still quite a lot to fit into one exhibition: four centuries of art and culture represented by 350 items ranging from Dutch depictions of the Brazilian landscape, Amazonian feather capes, and a monumental Baroque altarpiece to Neo-Concrete objects by Helio Oiticica and Lygia Clark and works by contemporary artists like Ernesto Neto. Organized by an international team led by Edward J. Sullivan, the exhibition aims to show visual art in the context of performance, music, and ritual. Get ready to samba (SaMBa) Software that allows a Unix server to act as a file server to Windows clients. Samba is a free, open source implementation of the CIFS file sharing protocol, which evolved from SMB, hence the SMB in SaMBa. Samba runs under Linux, FreeBSD and other Unix variants. It can be used with any modern PC as well as other hardware, but due to its efficiency, it also lends itself to old 486s that are recycled to serve as inexpensive file, print and backup servers in up the spiral.
