$14.95. Madison and her friend, Emily, enjoy watching baby birds try to
fly from their nest. Emily has just had her training wheels removed from
her bicycle and says it feels like flying. Given this challenge, Madison
is determined to also ride without training wheels and asks her father
to teach her. While Madison is attempting to ride, the bicycle wobbles
and almost tips over. Madison gets discouraged and decides to give up.
The next day, after a call from Emily and envisioning the baby birds
flying, Madison tries riding again. With Hope, her stuffed blue bird,
and her parents in tow, Madison eventually overcomes her fear and
masters the skill of riding a two wheeler. The text encourages children
to solve everyday problems with determination, patience, confidence, and
hard work. The watercolor illustrations bring the story to life. Ages 4
to 7. Reviewed by Harry M. Schwartz Jr., Graduate Student, Bloomsburg
