Brave Courtney's Disney trip dream.

Byline: HYWEL TREWYN

FUNDRAISING has started to help a schoolgirl - who has had four brain tumours - realise her dream of going to Disneyland Paris.

Courtney Jones, 11, from Beaumaris, Anglesey has been told that a fifth tumour is inevitable.

Another tumour would need a fifth operation but she will not get more radiotherapy treatment because it hasn't worked previously. She nearly died in November and was put on a ventilator ventilator /ven·ti·la·tor/ (ven´ti-la-tor)
1. an apparatus for qualifying the air breathed through it.

2. a device for giving artificial respiration or aiding in pulmonary ventilation.
.

Her mum, Melanie, 34, said: "We nearly lost her. Now, either she will have another 10 years or she won't be here. It could be a year, five years or 10. We don't know."

Courtney's family are now desperate to take her to Disneyland Paris to make her wish come true.

They had hoped to take their daughter to Florida before it became apparent she would not be able to fly for 10 hours.

Melanie, 34, said: "We had then planned to take Courtney to Euro Disney for Christmas before we found out she had another tumour.

"We're hoping to go in March now - it depends on how she is. She's getting a little bit better. She's having physiotherapy, hydrotherapy hydrotherapy, use of water in the treatment of illness or injury. Although the medicinal and hygienic value of water was recognized by the early Greeks, hydrotherapy attained its widest use in the 18th and 19th cent.  and rehabilitation rehabilitation: see physical therapy.  and radiotherapy in two weeks."

Surgeons had to take brain tissue away at her last operation which has affected her left side and her speech. She can only say a few words at present and communicates by putting her thumbs up or down and has been fed through a nasal tube.

Courtney's first tumour took six months to diagnose, followed by 18 months of chemotherapy.

She contracted MRSA MRSA Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. See MARSA.  and when a second tumour was found she needed another operation to install a "shunt To divert, switch or bypass. " to drain water from her brain.

. Anybodywho wishes donate should Owen on or Gethyn 07971 She had 30 radiotherapy doses before her fourth birthday, but until last year had gone five years without a tumour. She had to have a major operation to remove a third last September. After being given just two more chemotherapy doses Courtney's body started shutting down.

Doctors and her family feared she would not pull through.

Last month Courtney was given a Heart 103 bravery award for her long battle against cancer. Her mum Melanie accepted it on her behalf while Courtney was back in hospital facing yet more treatment.

She was nominated by family friend Carol Owen, from Amlwch, who with other friends are organising an auction, raffle and sponsored fishing trip to raise cash to send Ysgol Gynradd Llangoed pupil Courtney to Paris.

The auction will be held on October 15 at the Anglesey Arms, Menai Bridge For the bridges across the Menai Strait, see and Britannia Bridge.
