Brass festival's top note.

A MEMORABLE Brighouse Lions Festival of Brass culminated with 26 bands competing for glory in the town centre.

The festival, in its tenth year, began with Marsden Silver Prize Band conductor Glyn Williams performing a concert with guest soloist, Black Dyke's principal cornetist, Richard Marshall.

2006 and 2008 champions The Marsden Silver Prize Band defended their title successfully.

A rejuvenated Hammonds Saltaire Band, under conductor Morgan Griffith took the runners-up spot.Fred Etherington, "the voice of Brighouse" as he is affectionately known, spoke about Stuart and also Terry Nuttall and Richard Ashmore, two local brass musicians who recently passed away.

Clifton & Lightcliffe donated a trophy in memory of Terry, which was presented to the Best Trombones on the Road March by his widow Mavis.
