Brant-Brantford commemorates the War of 1812.As if things aren't getting exciting enough with celebrations on the local front, yet another great event is on the horizon. Tourism Brantford is organizing a committee to hold a special War of 1812 Bicentennial bi·cen·ten·ni·al adj. 1. Happening once every 200 years. 2. Lasting for 200 years. 3. Relating to a 200th anniversary. n. A 200th anniversary or its celebration. Also called bicentenary. Commemoration for Brantford, the County of Brant brant or brant goose, common name for a species of wild sea goose. The American brant, Branta bernicla, breeds in the Arctic and winters along the Atlantic coast. , Six Nations and New Credit in 2012. Brantford, the County of Brant, Six Nations and New Credit communities have a rich association with the War of 1812. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. declared war on the British, forces from both sides crossed Six Nations territory and the Grand River to gain access to key strategic locations such as Fort York (Toronto) and Fort Detroit. Many bloody battles were fought and Tecumseh's warriors stalked the American forces along the Grand River. The Bicentennial Commemoration will give the area a chance to develop legacy projects, create tourism opportunities and link with provincial, national and international efforts. An online mapping project now underway will detail each of the key areas in our communities where events from the War of 1812 took place.
