to Defend Their Intellectual Property

BrandDefense (www.branddefense.com) announced today its entrance into the intellectual property protection market. BrandDefense specializes in managing the process to copyright website content, locating unauthorized use of a company's assets online, and automatically generating notifications to have the infringements removed.

"A lot of companies don't realize that every term they've originated and every image they've created are legal assets of considerable value," said Sheridan Chambers, president of BrandDefense. "Once the materials exist on the Internet, protective measures are necessary. It's not uncommon for us to find hundreds, or even thousands, of violations against a company's name and other copyrighted and trademarked material."

BrandDefense protects a variety of copyrighted and trademarked information - including names, slogans, images, marketing documents, and more. In addition, the company protects domain names and looks for instances of typosquatting (registering a similar domain name with a slight misspelling mis·spell·ing

In addition, all assets are run through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to search for new applications that might indicate others trying to register similar intellectual property.

As a subscription-based service, BrandDefense searches for infringements continuously, generating Red Flag Reports monthly, weekly, or even daily, depending on the needs of the client. All results are also hand-filtered by BrandDefense Examiners, to provide clients with only the most relevant matches.

Defending Assets

For each Red Flag item a company or an attorney chooses to take action on, BrandDefense can automatically generate notification letters, as well as documents to support legal action, should the need arise. Companies can enter their own letters, use letters provided by an attorney, or choose from BrandDefense's library of pre-generated templates.

"With the rapid expansion of the Internet economy The Internet Economy refers to conducting business through markets whose infrastructure is based on the Internet and World-Wide Web. An Internet economy differs from a traditional economy in a number of ways, including: communication, market segmentation, distribution costs, and price. , there's an increasing need for intellectual property protection, and we have many clients who would be excellent candidates for this service," said Alan Thiele, head of the intellectual property practice for the Dallas-based Jenkens & Gilchrist. Thiele continued, "Websites and other information on the Internet are constantly changing, and BrandDefense offers a cost-effective way for companies to continually find and stop others who are infringing upon their assets."

Copyrighting Website Materials

In addition to protecting a company's assets online, BrandDefense also protects a company's online assets. BrandDefense can take over the time-consuming process of getting a website and its contents copyrighted by filing all the necessary paperwork with the U.S. Copyright office. BrandDefense also makes quarterly update filings to ensure the latest copy of the site is protected, and generates monthly CD archives of the site for records. Third-party, off-site storage is also available.
