 branch of a charity caring for people affected by Alzheimer's disease Alzheimer's disease (ăls`hī'mərz, ôls–), degenerative disease of nerve cells in the cerebral cortex that leads to atrophy of the brain and senile dementia.  has been hailed as a "flagship".

The national chairman of the Alzheimer's Society Alzheimer’s Society is a United Kingdom care and research charity for humans with dementia and their carers.

The Alzheimer's Society provides information and advice to assist carers which can also be used to assist in the training of doctors, nurses and care staff.
 praised the services provided by the Coventry branch as an example for others to follow.

Brian The name Brian (sometimes spelled Bryan) comes from an Irish backround. It is of Celtic origin and its meaning may be "hill" or "strong, noble, and high"[1].  Roycroft, speaking at a dinner marking the start of the branch's 10th anniversary year, congratulated members on a decade of achievement, which included the opening of its day care centre in Barras Green in 1995.

Mr Roycroft considers the branch to be a leader in the region and in the top 10 nationally for its forward thinking and commitment to quality.

He said: "The day centre was set up with a very clear eye to the proper standards - I've advised many people to come and see the day centre here and how it was set up, and a lot have followed its example.

"Coventry is a beacon in the West Midlands West Midlands, former metropolitan county, central England. Created in the 1974 local government reorganization, the county embraced the Birmingham conurbation and comprised seven metropolitan districts: Walsall, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Sandwell, Birmingham, Solihull,  and a shining example of how a branch of the Alzheimer's Society should be run."

Chairman Eileen White said the dinner - held at Henley College on Wednesday with the support of its catering trainees - was a way of thanking all the people who had helped the branch.

Guests included staff, volunteers and committee members, Deputy Lord Mayor Cllr Dave Chater, who is a supporter, and Eamonn Kelly, director of health policy and strategy at Coventry Health Authority.

Mrs White said the branch's plans for the future included extending its services for younger sufferers and setting up a befriending service.

The branch also wants to raise awareness about its support groups and day care and information services See Information Systems. , so GPs, professionals and carers know it is the first port of call for advice and support.
