Brake fear for Jeeps.

THOUSANDS of Jeeps in the UK are being recalled by DaimlerChrysler because of a possible brake problem.

Owners of 29,000 Jeep Cherokee Jeep Cherokee can refer to five different SUV models produced by Jeep from 1974 to the present:
  • Jeep Cherokee (SJ), a full-size SUV produced 1974–1983
  • Jeep Cherokee (XJ), a compact SUV produced 1984–2001
and 14,000 Grand Cherokee 4x4s are being asked to have vehicles checked by local dealers.

It is feared corrosion of the front brake rotor rotor: see generator; motor, electric.  could cause it to separate from the central hub section of the wheel, reducing brake efficiency.

The Cherokees are all models made between 1993 and 1999. The Grand Cherokees were made between 1995 and 1998.

A total of 177,000 vehicles are being recalled across Europe.
