Brainy Ian's chance.


A MATHS wizard at Rugby School Rugby School, located in the town of Rugby, Warwickshire, is one of the oldest public schools in England and is one of the major co-educational boarding schools in the country.  has been invited to join the British team to train for an international event.

If selected for the final team, Ian Gallagher Ian Gallagher is a fictional character in the Channel 4 drama Shameless, played by Gerard Kearns. He was 15 at the beginning of the first series (2004) and is the third oldest of the Gallagher siblings (and the second oldest boy). , aged 16, of Kilsby, will jet off to Taejon, South Korea, to compete against teams from 70 countries in the International Mathematical Olympiad The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is an annual mathematical olympiad for high school students. It is the oldest of the international science olympiads.

The first IMO was held in Romania in 1959. Since then it has been held every year except 1980.

Ian was chosen after demonstrating his problem-solving skills in geometry and algebra in the national senior mathematical challenge and in two rounds of the British Mathematical Olympiads The British Mathematical Olympiad forms part of the selection process for the UK International Mathematics Olympiad team. There are two rounds, the BMO1 and the BMO2. BMO Round 1 .

His school's head of mathematics, Gerald Newth, said: "I am very pleased for Ian.

"He clearly has the right sort of brain for the sort of questions they ask.

"He will enjoy and benefit from the training and I hope he gets selected for the team."
