BrainTech to Enhance NGI Technology Inc.'s Image Processing System With Its BrainTron Classifier.

VANCOUVER, B.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 11, 1998--BRAINTECH Inc. has reached an agreement with NGI (Next Generation Internet) A project of the U.S. government for researching high-speed network technologies for use by federal agencies. See Internet2.  Technology Inc. to enhance their Continuous Line SCAN (CL SCAN) image processing image processing

Set of computational techniques for analyzing, enhancing, compressing, and reconstructing images. Its main components are importing, in which an image is captured through scanning or digital photography; analysis and manipulation of the image, accomplished
system with the BrainTron(TM) classifier. The relationship between BRAINTECH and NGI will realize the next generation of automated defect inspection technology for rolled steel production.

NGI Technology builds and supports industrial web inspection systems for the steel industry. The advantage the CL SCAN has over its competitors is the integration of BRAINTECH's BrainTron classifier to its automatic defect recognition system. The automatic defect recognition system allows the system to classify image objects based on a pre-defined defect library without the aid of inspection personnel.

Steven Fastert, Vice President Engineering for NGI remarked, "BRAINTECH's classification technology qualifies data for our CL SCAN system. The resulting data optimizes the production process and accurately grades the quality of the steel product."

The BrainTron implements the patented technology based on a set of highly adaptive pattern matching 1. pattern matching - A function is defined to take arguments of a particular type, form or value. When applying the function to its actual arguments it is necessary to match the type, form or value of the actual arguments against the formal arguments in some definition.  algorithms referred to as the Olson Reticular reticular /re·tic·u·lar/ (-lar) resembling a net.

Brainstem (ORB) algorithm. The combination of the ORB algorithms and the BrainTron processor represent a major improvement to automatic recognition systems in terms of accuracy, throughput and cost.

Proper implementation of a CL SCAN system will allow manufacturers to significantly improve product quality, product yield and overall customer satisfaction.

"The BrainTron classifier offers NGI a dedicated processing board that will allow NGI's system to classify objects at their necessary line speeds," comments Owen Jones Owen Jones may refer to:
