How do ambitious businesspersons maintain a personal competitive edge when there's so little time to devote to improving themselves? How do small businesses with little or no training budget grow and develop their people? How do large companies continue to build their teams after teambuilding sessions end?

A Texas company is rolling out its answer after four years of extensive research and field-testing worldwide. And that answer is to provide each employee with their own 100-page self-coaching "personal competitiveness" guide, completely customized to show each individual how to make the most of their current performance skills, upgrade to new ones and diminish or avoid the impact of what they do poorly.

"What makes our new tool revolutionary is that it isn't a generic guide," says Dudley Lynch Dudley Lynch is an American author, publisher and educator who wrote Strategy of the Dolphin: Scoring a Win in a Chaotic World with co-author Paul L. Kordis.[1] , president of Brain Technologies Corporation and creator of Asset Report: The Book of You(TM). "We literally hand-assemble each 'Book of You,' selecting its insights from a proprietary 12,000-item database of descriptive instructions that covers the gamut See color gamut.

gamut - The gamut of a monitor is the set of colours it can display. There are some colours which can't be made up of a mixture of red, green and blue phosphor emissions and so can't be displayed by any monitor.
 of human capabilities and characteristics."

The advice each user receives is specifically targeted at who they are and how they think. "Opening up your 'Book of You' is like sitting in front of several human performance experts and listening to what they've observed, what they think about what they've observed and what they have to suggest to make you more competitive and valuable as a businessperson after watching you for months," he says.

And how does Lynch learn all this about the user of Asset Report?

From an extraordinary one-page, one-side self-appraising inventory that each Asset Report user completes--usually in ten minutes or less.

"I've been constructing ways to help people understand how to tweak To make minor adjustments in an electronic system or in a software program in order to improve performance. See calibrate.

-- Values and beliefs indicators. How an individual sorts out the causes and

-- "Grace under pressure" clues. How an individual reacts toward others in

-- Philosophical biases. How an individual justifies the expenditure of mental

And numerous others.

Lynch says users in field tests from Brunei and the Philippines to British Columbia British Columbia, province (2001 pop. 3,907,738), 366,255 sq mi (948,600 sq km), including 6,976 sq mi (18,068 sq km) of water surface, W Canada. Geography

He believes his Asset Report tool is so insightful that he refuses to allow it to be utilized for hiring or other personnel functions.

"Our market is human resource and personal development professionals--or individuals," says Lynch. "And we deliver the report only to the user or someone they have authorized au·thor·ize

And even though it's based on deep human choice-making and information-arranging principles, it isn't a psychological or a clinical counseling tool. It is designed in every way to be a self-directed, customized 'personal competitiveness' operating guide--instantly valuable to anyone who understands the need to keep upgrading themselves in these highly dynamic business times."
