Since 1952, Helen Keller Services for the Blind's (HKSB HKSB Hong Kong Society for the Blind ) Braille and Large-Print Library has been one of the primary production and distribution centers for Braille and large-print textbooks for students who have visual impairments Visual Impairment Definition

Total blindness is the inability to tell light from dark, or the total inability to see. Visual impairment or low vision is a severe reduction in vision that cannot be corrected with standard glasses or contact lenses and
 in grades K-12. Throughout the year, volunteers and employees work to ensure that these students receive learning materials at the same time their classmates Classmates can refer to either:
  • Classmates.com, a social networking website.
  • Classmates (film), a 2006 Malayalam blockbuster directed by Lal Jose, starring Prithviraj, Jayasurya, Indragith, Sunil, Jagathy, Kavya Madhavan, Balachandra Menon, ...
 do at the start of the school year. Due to the detailed nature of transcribing print books into Braille and large-print, the work is demanding and time consuming.

* The Library produces an average of 200,000 pages of Braille and large-print annually.

* The Library houses more than 10,000 master Braille and large-print titles in subjects such as English, foreign languages, sciences, higher mathematics, history, health, technology, economics, and art.

* Transcribing 25 pages of printed text is equal to about 75 pages of Braille.

* Each print textbook textbook Informatics A treatise on a particular subject. See Bible.  is broken down into Braille volumes. The number of volumes is dependant on Adj. 1. dependant on - determined by conditions or circumstances that follow; "arms sales contingent on the approval of congress"
contingent on, contingent upon, dependant upon, dependent on, dependent upon, depending on, contingent
 the number of pages in the textbook. For example, a 3rd Grade reading book of 100 pages may result in 4-5 volumes, whereas a high school math or science book may become 25-45 volumes of Braille.
