Brady connects early, sparks Surge to romp.

Byline: Brendan Hall

WORCESTER - Shawn Brady's first pass attempt last night was almost picked off. His next incompletion in the New England New England, name applied to the region comprising six states of the NE United States—Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The region is thought to have been so named by Capt.  Surge's matchup with the New Jersey Revolution wasn't until the third quarter.

In between, the quarterback put on one of the most effective performances of the season. The Surge went up, 35-16, at the half en route to a 62-26 win before 2,200 at the DCU Center This article or section is written like an .

New England improved to 7-1, while New Jersey fell to 2-7.

Brady completed 19 of 21 passes for 228 yards and seven touchdowns.

"Offensively, I think we played a complete game for the first time all year," Brady said. "And we've got to keep building on this."

Said wide receiver Cy Butler: "That guy (Brady) works hard, and he got exactly what he deserved today."

Butler, in his first action in three weeks because of a foot injury, was on the receiving end of three of those scores. New Jersey's defense started the night screening tight end Eric Boatwright, often leaving Butler in single coverage. Brady took advantage of the speed mismatch on Butler, who finished with five catches for 53 yards.

The Surge also threw New Jersey off guard with a strategy on the simple side. They threw 10 different formations at the defense, but it was sometimes the same play out of a different look.

Brady, however, saved his most impressive throw for the end. After Tyler King Tyler King is a fictional character from , portrayed by actor Callum Keith Rennie. He is an Immortal. History

"I told him before the game, `It's your game. You're our leader. Just go out there and have some fun,'" coach Roy Lucas said.

New England's defense, meanwhile, also put in one of its better efforts of the year. Led by coverage from Rashawn Jones and Eddie Jones, and pressure up front from Kerry Taylor (two sacks) and Tyler King, they allowed just 27 yards of offense in the first half. Merrit finally got into a rhythm in the second half, completing his first five passes for 50 yards, but by then, it was too late. His 3-yard scoring strike to Martin with 3:16 left in the third quarter was the last time the Revolution scored. They trailed at that point, 42-26.
