The event--which benefited the initiatives of the Brady Center and its fight to prevent gun violence--provided an elegant, star-studded evening, featuring a cocktail reception followed by dinner, an award program and auction. The event raised over $250,000 and the auction had attendees trying to out-bid one another for coveted items including: tickets to an upcoming Kenneth Cole fashion show, which went for $3,000; VIP tickets to a taping of CBS' NFL NFL abbr. National Football League NFL (US) n abbr (= National Football League) → Fußball-Nationalliga Today that went for $2,300; and the evening's most sought after item, a dinner-tour-for-two to six of Danny Meyer's restaurants that raised $12,000. Law & Order: SVU's Richard Belzer was the Master of Ceremonies for the evening, with Law & Order: Trial by Jury's Amy Carlson and Essence Magazine editor-at-large Diane Weathers presenting Kelly and Douglas with their awards, respectively. The award for Jack Rudin, who was unable to attend the event, was presented by long-time friend Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy and was accepted on his behalf by his niece Beth DeWoody. |
