He previously was vice president and chief financial officer-commercial insurance at the Zurich Insurance Group, and before that, vice president and controller of Zurich subsidiary, Maryland Casualty Company. He began his career as a senior accountant at Ernst & Young. Bessette has been chief administrative officer of The St. Paul since January 2002. He was previously vice president of Corporate Real Estate and Services for Travelers, and during his more than 20 years there, held a variety of management positions. He began his career at The Sheraton Corporation, where he was a marketing account executive.
