In the 20th minute a shove in the back on Alan Shearer a few yards outside the penalty area set up a dangerous free-kick. Peruvian Nolberto Solano's right-foot curler forced Matt Clarke to save low to his left. Clarke was then beaten for the only time with Ferguson's bullet header from a Solano corner but the bar saved City. Shearer, in a rare striking moment, shot on the turn but it drifted wide. Helder almost deceived Clarke with a near-post flick from another Solano corner before forcing the City keeper into a superb blocked save from a powerful drive. The change in Bradford in the second half was staggering before their 56th-minute goal. Andy O'Brien sent Lee Mills scampering along the left-wing and he then delivered a right-foot pull-back to Saunders at the near post from where a superb first-time shot thundered into the roof of the net. Just 15 minutes later Sharpe delivered a superb free-kick to the far post and Wetherall powered in a classic centre forward's header. |
