Jobs are set to be created at a medical equipment company poised to sign a lucrative contract in China.

Newcastle-based Peacocks Medical Group is set to tie up an agreement with a Shanghai Shanghai (shăng`hī`, shäng`hī`), city (1994 est. pop. 12,980,000), in, but independent of, Jiangsu prov., E China, on the Huangpu (Whangpoo) River where it flows into the Chang (Yangtze) estuary.  business partner to sell its specialised medical supports and braces See curly brace.  to a hospital in the city.

The deal could create up to 15 jobs at Peacocks' base, in Benfield Business Park, where the devices will be designed.

The 100-year-old company, which employs 130, says work done by regional development agency One NorthEast has helped it to enter the Chinese market.
