The United Farm Workers of America The United Farm Workers of America (UFW) began in 1962 as a coalition of poorly paid migrant farm workers and grew into a powerful Labor Union that has consistently fought to increase wages and improve working conditions for its members.  (UFW UFW United Farm Workers (union)

) on June 15 announced a boycott of the Charles Krug Winery and C. K. Mondavi wines.

The Krug Winery, operated by the Mondavi family, was one of the first vineyards the UFW successfully organized back in 1975. But the latest contract with Krug expired at the end of last year, and the company has threatened to fire its thirty-six-member unionized workforce. The UFW has filed an unfair labor practice Conduct prohibited by federal law regulating relations between employers, employees, and labor organizations.

Before 1935 U.S. labor unions received little protection from the law.
