Boxing legend to visit sports club.


BOXING legend Sugar Ray Leonard Ray Charles Leonard (born May 17, 1956) is a retired American professional boxer. He was one of the leading boxers in the world in the late 1970s and 1980s, winning world titles at multiple weights and engaging in contests with such celebrated opponents as Wilfred Benitez, Thomas  is coming to Ellesmere Port Ellesmere Port, town and district (1991 pop. 78,800), Cheshire, W central England. Ellesmere Port, located on the Manchester Ship Canal near its junction with the Shropshire Union Canal and the entrance into the Mersey estuary, is the principal town of the district.  as part of a fund-raising venture for Vauxhall Motors amateur boxing Amateur boxing is practiced at the collegiate level, at the Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games, and in many other venues sponsored by amateur boxing associations. Amateur boxing bouts are short in duration and fighters wear head protection, so this type of competition prizes  club.

The former Olympic gold medallist, who went on to become the first five-weight world champion, has been invited to a special event at Vauxhall sports and social club later this month.

The evening is supported by the mayor of Ellesmere Port, Cllr Tony Sherlock, who said the event would support the club's work helping youngsters in the area.

Tickets for the event, on October 13, cost pounds 50, and are available from 07971 476605.
