BIRMINGHAM'S British middleweight champion Wayne Elcock flies out to Basle, Switzerland, on Monday for a press conference.

That's where and when the official announcement, reported exclusively in the Birmingham Mail The Birmingham Mail is a tabloid newspaper based in Birmingham, UK but distributed around Birmingham, The Black Country, Solihull, Warwickshire and parts of Worcestershire and Staffordshire.  last week, will be made for his huge world IBF IBF

title challenge against champion Arthur Abraham Arthur Abraham (born Avetik Abrahamyan in Yerevan, Armenia) is a professional German Boxer of Armenian origin and currently the IBF world champion in the middleweight division.  on December 8.

It was thought the match would take place in Berlin, Abraham's home city, but not so.

Elcock, coming down from cloud nine since beating Howard Eastman for the British championship, told me: "Basle or Berlin, it doesn't matter to me, although I am surprised that the Abraham camp have agreed to what amounts to a neutral venue.

"Going for the press conference on Monday will give me that chance to meet Abraham and size him up and check the gym and hotel I will be using.

"Unfortunately I will be out of my gym while I am away but I will train on Sunday, which is my normal day off, to make up for it.

"When I get back there will be just one thing on my mind. I want to be a world champion and everything will be done by my team to make sure I am ready for the challenge," he added.

Coach and adviser Paddy Lynch went on: "We have signed the contracts and everything is now in place.

"The only thing we are not sure about is the size of the ring. They want the smallest possible and we want the biggest.

"At the end of the day we will have to accept what we get so long as it meets with the IBF rules.

"In the meantime Adv. 1. in the meantime - during the intervening time; "meanwhile I will not think about the problem"; "meantime he was attentive to his other interests"; "in the meantime the police were notified"
meantime, meanwhile
it is my job to get Wayne even fitter than he was when he beat Eastman.

"That won't be easy but if we can get an extra once of power into his punching and a touch more stamina into his legs etc it will all be worthwhile.

"Because, believe me, I am well aware of the massive task that Elcock is facing.

"But I would not have agreed to the fight had I not felt he would be going in with a well thought out chance of winning.

"It is also a fantastic chance for him to move up the ladder and reach world class status.

"He will go into the ring as the underdog but that is a situation he relishes.

"We will be studying videos etc and eventually settle on a game plan which will bring him victory," he added.
