Birtley's Gary Barr will embark tonight on the long road he hopes will lead to him being crowned an ABA champion.

The Tyne, Tees and Wear round of the senior ABAs is being held at the Marton Country Club and Barr, already a victorious England international, is desperate to follow recent club members like Andrew McLean and Tony Marsden as an ABA belt holder.

Surprisingly, Barr is the only Birtley representative in the area semi-finals tonight - the finals are in nine days time.
