will postpone his 21st birthday celebrations today determined to continue his path towards a world title within the next 12 months.

Khan defends his Commonwealth lightweight title in his 15th professional bout at the Bolton Arena tonight, taking on former interim world title challenger Graham Earl.

When the 2004 Olympic silver medalist turned professional in July 2005 he stated his ambition to break Naseem Hamed's record as Britain's youngest world champion.

Hamed was 21 years and seven months old when he beat Welshman Steve Robinson to claim the WBO WBO World Boxing Organization

featherweight title in September 1995 and while Khan's progress has been rapid, a world title challenge before next August is perhaps unlikely.

He said: "I'll put the birthday to one side. I'm going to focus on this fight and go in there and do what I normally do. I'm not going to let my birthday come between it! I've trained so far for this fight, I am just going to do my job, get out and then celebrate after the fight.

"So at the moment I'm thinking 100% about the fight."

Meanwhile, Liverpool fighers Paul Smith and Tony Bellew will be looking to preserve their unbeaten records on the undercard un·der·card

 of Khan's defence.

Middleweight Smith faces Tanzanian super middle weight champion Francis Cheka over eight rounds.

Light-heavyweight Bellew goes in with Cardiff 's Wayne Brooks in Bolton on a mission to make it three knockouts from his first three bouts.
