CALLUM CALLUM Combined Analog Locked-Loop Universal Modulator  SMITH proved he's a genuine chip of the Smith family block by capturing his first national title last weekend - and also played his part in making boxing history

With his maiden Junior ABA success, the Rotunda rotunda

Combined the four brothers have never lost a Junior ABA bout - collecting five titles in the process - while racking up an amazing 18 national crowns in all competitions.

The eldest, Paul Jnr, now a 20-0 undefeated professional, collected five English titles from schoolboy to senior, including one Junior ABA crown in 2000.

Next up, featherweight Stephen - one of Great Britain's strongest hopes for a medal in Beijing next summer - boasts two Junior ABA golds (2003-04) among his nine national titles.

As for Liam, aka 'Beefy', he heads into his first season as a senior with three national titles, including a Junior ABA 63kg win from last year.

And now Callum is off the mark courtesy of last weekend's performance in Crystal Palace.

Callum, who will help break another record when he makes his England bow in Ireland next week, said: "Our Junior ABA's run is an incredible record and one I dared not spoil.

"We never really talked about it beforehand but, of course, I was aware that the three of them had all won it.

"It was only really after my win that we thought it through and realised that now, between the four of us, we've never lost a bout in the competition."

That must amount to anywhere between 30 and 40 contests.

He adds: "The target now has to be to break the 20 national titles barrier, which is down to me and Liam now."

Growing up in the shadow of the Rotunda was undoubtedly the inspiration behind the family's success.

As Stephen explains: "I guess we've always been competitive.

"Paul was the first to walk through the doors of the gym and we all followed.

"Paul used to come home from the gym and use me as his guinea pig guinea pig (gĭn`ē), domesticated form of the cavy, Cavia porcellus, a South American rodent. It is unrelated to the pig; the name may refer to its shrill squeal. . That sharpened me up though, so when I started I was ahead of everyone else.

"The same goes for Liam and Callum. I used to come back from the gym and show them things too."

Stephen too accepts that the 20 titles target has to be his younger siblings responsibility now.

He added: "Reaching 20 titles is achievable now. Liam is just about to compete in his first Senior ABAs while Callum has another 18 months of junior competition ahead of him.

"But I'd also like them to win Commonwealth Games medals too. Paul did it, I did it and now I'd love to see either Liam or Callum, or both, do the same."
