KENNY EGAN'S withdrawal from Saturday's Hunky Dorys world title fight night has been described as "messy" by promoter Brian Peters.

But Peters also revealed that not one boxing fan has asked for their money back after Olympic silver medallist Egan pulled out a fortnight ago.

The 27-year-old briefly absconded to New York instead of participating in an Ireland v USA international at the Stadium, preventing his eagerly awaited match-up with his Olympic final rival Xiaoping Zhang being announced on Tubridy Tonight.

"We secured the Chinese boxer on the 11th of February," Peters explained.

"With respect to Kenny, who was involved in the national championships and then was going to be in the international against the USA we held back from announcing it and were going to do so on the Tubridy show.

"It was messy but no-one asked for their money back.

"Bringing Andy Lee on board instead has added to it and it's going to be a celebration of Irish boxing."

Katie Taylor, Paddy Barnes and world youth champ Ray Moylett are all on the bill, along with pros Dunne, Lee, Andy Murray and Jim Rock.

"We sat down and wanted to come up with something a little innovative," said Peters, who has spent close to EURlm on the night and only has a handful of tickets left to sell.

"There won't be too many more nights like this in Irish boxing".
