Boxing: Champ Miguel in mood to bag a Major.

Byline: By Bernie McGuire

SIZZLING Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez grabbed the Hong Kong Open Events called the Hong Kong Open include:

  • Hong Kong Open (golf)
  • Hong Kong Open (snooker)
crown yesterday then insisted he's hot enough to win a Major.

The 40-year-old from Malaga shot four-under 66 for 266 to plunder his fifth title of 2004 and relegate defending champion Padraig Harrington to the 25th runners-up spot of his career.

Jimenez said: 'If I can keep playing like this I can win a Major and that is my long-term target. If it happens, it will be fantastic.

'Vijay Singh has won nine times this year and he demonstrated to the world that golf is not just for young players. It proves that 40 is a good age.'

Jimenez condemned Harrington and South African James Kingston (67) to second on 267.

It was agonising for the Irishman who birdied three of the five closing holes in his 67.

Harrington said: 'I must have missed about six very makeable putts and that ultimately cost me.'

Dane Thomas Bjorn (69) finished tied for fourth on 270 and two clear of Nick Faldo who stumbled with five bogeys in a 71 as he battled to wipe out a near eight-year winless run. The Englishman said: 'I just need more trust in my game as I kept second-guessing myself.

'My iron shots were good enough but my driving was poor and so was my putting.'

Paul Lawrie had to wait until the 17th before bagging a birdie in a 72 for 280 while fellow Scot Raymond Russell ended with a 70 for 283.
