JOHN PILGER - IN THE NAME OF JUSTICE

FOR A journalist, being asked to review John Pilger is like being asked to tell Kenny Dalglish how to play football - you know he already knows a lot more about it than you. This four-disc set comprises 12 hand-picked documentaries from the great man's archive, many gleaned from the '70s and '80s. It's a mark of Pilger's talents that these documentaries haven't really aged. His fantastic look at The Mexicans sees Pilger muse on the country's new-found oil wealth and how it is unlikely to help those living in the shanty towns of Mexico City as thousands try to cross the US border to a newlife of minimumwage slavery.

Little has changed. He joins America's top advertising agency to wonder whether politics is nowmore about image than policy-more than 20 years later, he's been proved spot-on.

Vietnam, Japan, South Africa, nowhere escapes Pilger's piercing gaze, his thoughts delivered with almost poetic fluency. His own nation of Australia doesn't get off lightly either, Pilger exposing the racist inequalities which have blighted the country since the white man first came across the Aborigines. Pure class.

THE DREAM LIFE Of ANGELS (LA VIE REVEE DES ANGES) (18)

TWO housemates gradually see their lives begin to disintegrate after failed romantic encounters and their lack of a job starts to hit home. This French tale won a Best Actress prize at Cannes and was nominated for the top Palme d'Or prize, and for once actually lives up to that type of hype. The performances of Elodie Bouchez and Natacha Regnier are truly outstanding and this is a superb advertisement for the continuing good health of French cinema which sadly leaves our own efforts well behind.

ARTHUR AND THE INVISIBLES (U)

DIRECTOR Luc Besson has gathered together an impressive list of voiceover people for this part computergenerated animation, part action adventure tale. Robert de Niro, Madonna, Harvey Keitel, Snopp Dogg and David Bowie all turn up on a movie which had the potential to be one of those huge crossover hits for adults and kids alike.The story follows 10-year-old Arthur whose grandfather disappears, leaving behind a series of notebooks which lead Arthur into the mysterious world of the Invisibiles and a search for missing treasure. I'll be honest, this type of movie has never struck a chord with me and while there's plenty to enjoy visually, it'll be a bigger kid thanme who really takes the film to their heart.
