Box Tops for Education Recognizes Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald for Her Dedication to Education; Congresswoman Heralded as Box Tops for Education Champion.


MINNEAPOLIS -- Box Tops The Box Tops were a Memphis pop music group of the late 1960s. They are best known for the hits "The Letter," "Soul Deep" and "Cry Like A Baby," and are considered a major blue-eyed soul group of the period.  for Education, General Mills' renowned school fund-raising program, is pleased to announce that Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald Juanita Millender-McDonald (September 7, 1938 – April 22, 2007) was an American politician who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1996 until her death in 2007, representing California's 37th congressional district, which includes most of  (D-CA) is the recipient of the program's first-ever Box Tops for Education Champion award. The award recognizes Rep. Millender-McDonald for her many years of outstanding advocacy and support of California students and schools. The award was presented during the Congressional Black Caucus Congressional Black Caucus, organization of African-American members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Founded in 1970, it addresses legislative concerns of African Americans and other minority citizens, such as employment, welfare reform, minority business  Foundation's 34th Annual Legislative Conference held in Washington, D.C., from September 8-11, 2004.

Through Congresswoman Millender-McDonald's career, which has included work as a teacher and school administrator, she has fought for meaningful education reform and educational excellence in public education.
