Bowls: Vinnie storms into Final trio; GRASSROOTS SPORT.

THE final stages of the Yorkshire County competitions were at Kirkbymoorside.

Successful competitors will play in the County Finals to be held at Kirkbymoorside and will also qualify to represent Yorkshire in the National Championships in August.

This year's finals will be dominated by Middlesbrough's Vinny O'Neill who will play in three of the four major competitions.

O'Neill comfortably won 21-8 over Scott Burrell Scott David Burrell (born January 12, 1971 in New Haven, Connecticut) is an American professional basketball player who won an NBA Championship with the Chicago Bulls in 1998.  in the singles semi final.

His opponent in the final will be Stephen Dilkes (Nafferton), a past winner of the title.

In the pairs semi final O'Neill, partnered by his father Vincent, had a similarly convincing 21-9 win over E Wilkinson and A Close (York RI ).

O'Neill has won the pairs on four occasions with three different partners.

Mark Walton(1957-) is a highly respected and popular figure in the Australian and New Zealand musical scene and widely acknowledged in many parts of the world as a leading clarinet and saxophone performer,
 (Nafferton) and Tony Margerrison (Northallerton).

This game has been delayed because Walton is on International duty.

The two O'Neills were joined by Denis Chapman in their triples semi final against Tim Winter (Holderness).

The Middlesbrough trio winning 21-4.

Their opponents in the final will be A Young, G McDowell and J Warriner (Kirkbymoorside).

The Boro A dropped half a point on Monday against Locke Park; they followed this up with a 6-2 win at Guisborough Priory.

Second placed Smiths Dock had a 7-1 win at Thornaby Village on Monday but on Thursday faced current champions Brotton.

The result was in doubt until the last bowl when East Cleveland East Cleveland, city (1990 pop. 33,096), Cuyahoga co., NE Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland; inc. 1911. Mostly residential, it has some declining light industry. It is, however, the site of a General Electric lamp factory and research laboratory.  team took the honours with a one shot win.

John Gillespie (K Meadows, J Pierre and G Allen) did well for Smiths Dock with a 26-18 win over Karl Tyreman.

Steve Slaughter (E Race, T Keay and I Daniell) were 19-18 winners over John Tyreman.

Alan Crossman skipped his rink to a 20-12 win over Brian Horsfield.

Andrew Carmichael had a 20-18 win against Tommy Addison.

The final score was Smiths Dock 75 (2pts) Brotton 76 (6pts).

Albert Park went into third place on Thursday, winning against Northallerton.

Thornaby were beaten 7-1 by Borough Park but bounced back on with an 8-0 win at Pallister Park.

Marske A are making progress picking up maximum points in both their games last week against Nunthorpe and Hutton Rudby.

The results of the summer's Paris league games at Thornaby Indoor BC were: Craig O'Riordan /George Smith 20, Alistair Eden /Alan Livingstone 12, Ally Duncan/ Kenny Boult 17, Trevor Wilson/Brian Lawson 11, Bryn Mosley/Ron Snowden 19, Sue and Frank Crocker 4, Colin Forrester/Colin Wilton 16, Vince and Pat Thwaites 15, David Waites/Brian Connell 23 Denis Garbutt/Colin Russell 9.
