Bovis, Inc. acquires Schal construction firm.

The Chicago-based construction services company Schal Associates, Inc. has been acquired by Bovis Inc., the US holding company of P&O's Bovis Construction Group.

Last year Bovis Inc. acquired Schal Northeast, Inc., based in New York City, and a significant portion of the business of Schal Mid-Atlantic, Inc., of Washington, D.C. Schal Associates was founded in 1976 and currently employs 250 staff.

Commenting on the acquisition, Sir Frank Lampl, chairman of the Bovis Construction Group, said: "Bringing Schal Associates into the group significantly strengthens both our resources and our geographical coverage of the US construction market.

"It is a company with an enviable world-wide reputation in the construction sector and a range of attributes and skills which will prove invaluable to us in winning new work, both across the USA and the rest of the world."

As part of Bovis, Inc., Schal Associates is in the company of two other leading US construction companies, New York-based Lehrer McGovern Bovis, acknowledged world-wide for the restoration of the Statue of Liberty and for construction management and program management of large projects in the United States, and McDevitt & Street, a large south eastern general contractor and construction manager based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
