), unveils today here at Citrix Systems Solutions Summit its latest offerings in the company's Capio(TM) II line of low-cost, thin-client computing devices. The new Capio II models 420 and 425 Windows(R)-based Terminals (WBTs) are the first in the product line to feature a built-in Microsoft(R) Internet Explorer 4.0 web browser The program that serves as your front end to the Web on the Internet. In order to view a site, you type its address (URL) into the browser's Location field; for example, www.computerlanguage.com, and the home page of that site is downloaded to you.  for local Internet access and are priced significantly lower than their closest competitor. The model 425 makes its debut today in Boundless Technologies' exhibit booth No. 4.

Building on the fast, cost-effective Capio II hardware platform, Boundless has expanded its Microsoft Windows CE-based thin-client family to offer the ability to access web-based applications directly from the desktop instead of via the server, eliminating unnecessary traffic on the network and reducing server load, thereby boosting performance. With standard 16 MB of flash memory and 32 MB of RAM, both the model 420 and 425 offer support of multiple simultaneous sessions and permit local storage of favorite websites. Both models support the Citrix(R) ICA Ica (ē`kä), city (1993 pop. 108,724), capital of Ica dept., SW Peru, on the Pan-American Highway. It is a commercial center for the cotton, wool, and wine produced in the region. There are several summer resorts nearby. (R) protocol and Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol See RDP.

(R) and other legacy applications, the model 425 also offers a broad range of popular text terminal emulations. Street pricing starts at $582 for the model 420 and $656 for the model 425. Boundless estimates these prices to be as much as 30 percent lower in cost than their closest competitor, further testament to the Capio II's low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO (1) (Total Cost of Ownership) The cost of using a computer. It includes the cost of the hardware, software and upgrades as well as the cost of the inhouse staff and/or consultants that provide training and technical support. See ROI. ), which is fundamental to the thin-client computing concept.

"Today's launch of our Capio II 420 and 425 web browser models broadens our portfolio of thin clients to meet a wider range of customer needs," said Michael Oliva, managing director at Boundless Technologies, Inc. "The Capio II's flexible design permits the user to custom tailor the thin client as an Internet appliance for direct desktop access to email and web-based applications and for general web browsing, or, if need be as a Windows terminal to simultaneously access a wide variety of server-based Windows applications. Plus, the low acquisition cost of the Capio II will permit our customers to affordably adopt or expand a thin-client computing solution."

The Capio II models 420 and 425 feature on-board audio, dual USB ports, optional single/double serial ports, support for 10/100 Ethernet, a high 1280 x 1024 selectable resolution, and printer and touch-screen support, making them among the most feature -rich in their class. Both models are expected to be available in February.
