Bouma wants to repay debt.

Byline: Bill Howell

WILFRED Bouma Wilfred Bouma (born June 15, 1978 in Helmond, North Brabant) is a Dutch football player who currently plays for English club Aston Villa. A technically refined left back/centre back who is known for his hard working nature and his ability to pick a pass really well.  says he is driven by a burning desire to repay both club and supporters as he continues his fightback from careerthreatening injury.

The 31-year-old Dutch international full-back returns for pre-season training next week having been injured 11 months ago against Odense in only the second match of last season.

Bouma was handed a new two-year contract with the option of a third year by Martin O'Neill last September and he is clearly keen to make up for lost time.

Bouma strenuously denied there is any doubt over his career in a statement last Friday. There were complications in his rehabilitation rehabilitation: see physical therapy.  following a first operation to re-set his broken and dislocated dis·lo·cate

Now, after more surgery, he is finally hoping to step up his comeback in earnest.

He said: "The only thing on my mind is getting back out there. I can't wait to put that claret and blue shirt on again.

"I want to be back playing with all the boys again because Villa have been brilliant with me and I want to give them something back for the support they have shown me." The left-back now wants to be part of the push to finish just as high this coming campaign.

"The lads did really well last season - brilliantly - and the challenge now is to repeat that or better it. In football and in life generally, challenges are good," he said.

Thomas said revenue from the game will soften the financial blow of the demise of broadcaster Setanta.

He said: "We thank Villa and Martin O'Neill for agreeing to the game. It's a fine gesture from a top club." Villa will have only just returned from Spain and will then face Fiorentina on August 8 to complete their pre-season preparations. "It is one for the supporters to enjoy and should be a great night," continued Thomas..
