Botulism in birds fear; WILDLIFE.

VETS are examining a possible fatal outbreak of botulism botulism (bŏch`əlĭz'əm), acute poisoning resulting from ingestion of food containing toxins produced by the bacillus Clostridium botulinum.  among wild birds.

Animal welfare experts in Cork City are on alert after the deaths of six ducks and two swans in the area known as the Lough.

If the tests prove positive the outbreak will be the second wave of the disease in recent weeks.

A strain of botulism wiped out at least 50 swans and 40 ducks last month.
