Crews immediately closed off everything within a 500-foot radius, including parts of Olympic and 28th streets and Centennial Boulevard. The Springfield hazardous materials team and members of the Eugene police bomb squad took the chemical for safe disposal, Rappe said.

The area was reopened about 6 p.m.
