Botswana Diamondfields Lab. Analysis of Reconnaissance Soil Sampling Reveals Significant Kimberlitic Garnet Concentrations At Both the Deception Pan and Mopipi Sites.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 20, 1996-- BOTSWANA Botswana (bŏtswä`nə), officially Republic of Botswana, republic (2005 est. pop. 1,640,000), 231,804 sq mi (600,372 sq km), S central Africa.  DIAMONDFIELDS (VSE See DOS/VSE.

Follow up field programs, additional mineral chemical analyses and review of aeromagnetic data will be undertaken in early 1997 to define suitable drilling targets at both locations.

Deception Pan Block (2907 sq.km)

Laboratory reports from the previously announced Reconnaissance Soil Sampling program have now been received. This survey, of over 1,000 samples conducted on a nominal two kilometre grid, has revealed a broad belt of kimberlitic garnet concentrations trending in a north-westerly direction across the licence block. When the coarse (0.7 - 1.0 mm) garnets are plotted separately, several discrete anomalous concentrations are clearly recognised. Careful microscope examination of grain shapes and surface textures has also revealed coincidence of such features as sub-angular grains, slightly abraded grains and grains with sub-kelyphitic surfaces (i.e., remnants of the surface as it was when entrained in the kimberlite kimberlite: see diamond.

Additional mineral chemical analyses are now being undertaken to further confirm previous work which had revealed G10 pyrope py·rope

A more detailed soil sampling program is now planned for early 1997. Spot samples on a 500m grid will be collected over the most favourable anomalous reconnaissance targets. A review of the aeromagnetic data acquired in 1988 will also be undertaken to ascertain possible coincidence of previously unrecognised magnetic features and assist in the selection of drilling targets. Mopipi Block (1939 sq.km)

Laboratory reports of grain counts from the Reconnaissance Soil Sampling program in the Mopipi Block have now been received. This survey, conducted on a nominal two kilometre grid, has revealed several rational concentrations of kimberlitic indicator minerals. In one case a sample split contained 102 garnets together with four ilmenites and two chrome diopsides. Microscope examination of surface textures and mineral chemical analyses are still to be completed.

This anomalous sample may lie between high-level and low-level paleo-shorelines.

Detailed soil sampling will be carried out in 1997 on a 500m grid over the anomalous indicator mineral concentrations. Prioritization of this work and subsequent drilling if warranted will be on a basis of the results of current laboratory work in progress.
