Botanic art at the Palm House.


A STRIKING live art installation has graced Sefton Park Palm House.

Hybrids was performed by students from Paul McCartney's Fame academy the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) is a school in the English city of Liverpool that offers training in Acting, Dance, Music, Sound Technology, Arts Management, Technical Theatre, and Theatre Design. .

The project was inspired by catwalk haute couture and included a creature trapped in a cage-like sculpture with ' red ink seeping through her dress.

Two other dancers in full body paint wrapped themselves around a spiral staircase, and an inguisitive female character was dressed in shades of pink.

Lipa students said they wanted to explore the themes of human DNA DNA: see nucleic acid.

One of two types of nucleic acid (the other is RNA); a complex organic compound found in all living cells and many viruses. It is the chemical substance of genes.
 and the genetic make-up of plant life.

The work was the final year project for design students Michelle Smikle 'and Lauren Barker.

She said: "With all its botanic beauty the Palm House is a great location. We wanted our piece to merge exguisitely with the natural surroundings.

"It was really well received. Everyone who saw it was surprised because they weren't expecting it, but people loved it."

Lipa spokesman Chris Smith said: "This was a great opportunity to show off some of the people who make performance possible, such as designers.",
