Perlman is an Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatric Dentistry at the Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine The Goldman School of Dental Medicine is the dental school of Boston University. Its curriculum is noted for the APEX program (Professional Applied Experience) providing students with practical experience at a dental practice as part of its clinical training. and also has a private practice in Lynn, Massachusetts. For the past 26 years, he has devoted much of his practice, as well as his teaching to the treatment of children and adults with disabilities. In 1993, Perlman founded Special Olympics Special Smiles, an oral health initiative for Special Olympics, and currently serves as the initiative's Global Clinical Advisor. Established in 1998, the Pediatric Dentist of the Year Award is presented to a pediatric dentist who has made significant contributions to the dental profession and the specialty of pediatric dentistry through clinical practice, academics, research or policy development over an entire career. Recipients have also devoted extensive volunteer leadership service to the dental profession and the specialty. |
