Boston University Opens Satellite Campus in Braintree; Two-year Program Designed for Corporate Managers Seeking Bachelor's Degree.

Boston University's Metropolitan College has opened a South Shore campus in Braintree, where it will offer a fast-track Bachelor of Science degree-completion program. The Braintree campus also will offer a certificate program in software development and other training programs. Classes will begin September 4, and applications are being accepted now.

"We know there are many people who began working towards a bachelor's degree and who are now building successful business careers," says John Ebersole, dean of Metropolitan College. "The degree-completion program is geared toward the motivated corporate manager or executive who hasn't yet completed her or his bachelor's degree. The accelerated program will help move them ahead of the competition in a fast-changing economy, and for many it will fill the missing hole in their career track."

For nearly 40 years Metropolitan College, with satellite campuses in Tyngsboro, Foxboro, downtown Boston, an International Graduate Center in Brussels, Belgium, and other locations has been a national leader in continuing education, corporate education, and workforce development.

The new two-year program is designed for executives with at least seven years of progressive work experience and 65 previous college credits. Students will earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management Studies with concentrations in either Electronic Commerce or Innovation and Technology Management.

The program will have a management focus, but integrate the contemporary role that technology and e-commerce now plays in business and everyday life. It will also include an array of non-management courses into the curriculum, creating a learning environment that brings executive MBA values to an undergraduate program.

The program also is designed to accommodate the busy workday and personal schedules of full-time executives, and will offer classes on weekday evenings and alternating Saturdays. Students will learn from professionals in the field, full-time Boston University faculty, and from each other through team-based projects in a cohort setting. A full-time faculty coordinator is on-site and the program comes as a complete package, from tuition, fees, and books to bagels at Saturday sessions.

The University chose the Braintree Hill Park site at the junction of Routes 3, 93 and 128, in order to bring the classroom out to the many individuals working or living on the South Shore and throughout southeastern Massachusetts. The campus will house both BU Corporate Education Center and Metropolitan College programs. University officials hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new campus on Monday, June 25.

Founded in 1965, Metropolitan College is one of the 16 schools and colleges of Boston University, and enrolls more than 3,500 students. At the Charles River Campus, the college offers working professionals the opportunity to earn a Boston University degree in a variety of undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs in areas such as art history, computer science, economics, management studies, and urban affairs, and many others.
