Boston Consumers Say Location and Size Matter.

Idearc Media Idearc Media (pronounced EYE-dee-arc) is a spinoff of Verizon's print and online yellow pages business. Formerly Verizon Information Services, it is based in Dallas, TX with a corporate office located at DFW Airport.  Publishes New Verizon Yellow Pages Based on Local Shopping Patterns and Insights

BOSTON -- Based on consumer market research and Bostonian shopping patterns, Idearc Media Corp., the official publisher of Verizon print directories, is introducing three newly designed Verizon Yellow Pages. The three localized editions take the place of the former single Boston Verizon Yellow Pages directory, representing one of the most significant enhancements introduced since the launch of the predecessor yellow pages 100 years ago.

The Boston-City Edition, Boston-Brookline Edition and Boston-Cambridge Edition feature an illustration of the Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge The Leonard P. In addition, the size of the directories has changed. The three Boston editions are a more convenient 7 inches by 11 inches with three columns; whereas the primary competitor in Boston is typically 9 inches by 11 inches with four columns.

"We responded by breaking a huge market down into three compact directory editions to make sure the Boston Verizon Yellow Pages -- along with SuperPages.com -- continue to be the fastest and easiest way to find relevant local shopping information."

market research conducted by Lynx Research Consulting1 on behalf of Idearc Media, consumers were more likely to shop locally for products and services.

Over a one month period, Cambridge residents shopped within Cambridge 86 percent of the time and Brookline residents shopped within Brookline 70 percent of the time.

Seven most often used categories were utilized to gauge the distance consumers were willing to travel from their home base to search for products or services. Categories included:

1. Home furnishings, electronics, appliances and accessories

2. Doctors and dentists

3. Contractors for home repair, renovation, plumbers or electricians

4. Automobiles, new or used

Additional research indicated more than 60 percent of Boston consumers preferred a compact-sized directory over the current directory size.

Localized Resources

In addition to valuable coupons from many advertisers, menus from area restaurants and insider information such as must-see attractions, museums, local beaches with corresponding photos, recreational activities, a golf guide and stadium guides including seating charts and a health and wellness section, all of the Boston Verizon Yellow Pages directories include the illustration of the completed Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge on the cover, a brighter tint 1. "Get To It"

Supporting the launch of the new Verizon Yellow Pages directories is a TV and radio advertising campaign created by the award-winning RD&F Advertising Agency.(*)

The campaign plays on the perils of asking a simple question and getting "too much info," while emphasizing that use of the Verizon Yellow Pages lets consumers "get to it."

In a 30-second commercial entitled "Stu," an office worker asks his coworkers for a nearby pizzeria. Instead of a quick, appropriate response, Stu gives him "Too Much Info"O providing an uncomfortable answer and situation for his coworker co·work·er or co-work·er

In "Carol," a 20-something female enters an elevator and notices Carol's shoes. Upon asking where she got them, she is greeted with "Too Much Info"O Carol rambles, cries, and provides everything but the right info.

In addition to TV and radio, the new campaign includes print, outdoor and transit advertising, plus a $2 Million Scratch and Win promotional component consisting of TV, radio, print, and outdoor advertising.
