Boston Company Produces PUMA's World Cup Audio Guides in Logistical Feat; CD\Works Custom-Designs, Packages CD Sets in Five Languages, Duplicates and Ships Worldwide.

BOSTON -- To create audio CD guides for World Cup fans traveling to Germany, PUMA International, the global athletic brand needed to creatively package 12 hours of audio guides in five languages on CD, plus accompanying maps--and do it fast!

They gave the job to CD\Works, a Boston-based CD and DVD DVD: see digital versatile disc.

service. In just less than 30 days, CD\Works assembled and manufactured "Soundtrip" and shipped it to 45 cities in 16 countries.

PUMA Soundtrip gave fans information on 12 host German cities, including their history, stadium plans and practical tips on shopping, eating, getting to the matches and after-game parties. It's a unique concept developed by PUMA which is outfitting out·fit

"The combination of 12 hours of audio in five languages resulting in 60 different master CDs made the logistics formidable," said Kerin Putnam, Business Development Manager at CD\Works.

There had to be a map, for example, of each city accompanying the CDs. The maps were a set size and we couldn't change them to accommodate normal CD packaging," Putnam said. "So we changed the packaging to fit the maps!"

Working closely with PUMA's Boston office, Putnam's team developed custom packaging that was user-friendly, portable and cost-effective. Because standard CD sleeves were too small for useful maps, CD\Works created a custom sleeve

Though the deadline was brutally tight, Jeff Starfield, CD\Works Founder and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  said, "Actually, the time frame worked in our favor. We're set up to respond to last-minute changes and maintain exacting attention to detail."

The 60 different audio CDs had to be manually inserted into matching city-sleeve and language-specific slipcases. Then the correct combinations of language sets had to be shipped worldwide, to various PUMA stores and other locations in Germany. CD\Works manufactured thousands of 12-CD Soundtrip sets in five languages.

CD\Works, founded in 1993, is a leading CD production service in Boston, and one of the first such services to appear worldwide. It creates CDs, DVDs and specially-shaped CDs for any purpose in quantities ranging from one to thousands of copies. Web: www.cdworks.com
