A RISING number of managers planning a career switch want to be teachers - and nearly half want to be heads in five years.

Bosses are attracted by the security of the public sector and the pounds 53,700 average salary for being head of a school.

Superheads, roles where they can apply their business skills, get even more.

But Steve Munby of the National College for School Leadership, which did the survey of 1,400 bosses, warned: "Being a head teacher isn't a soft option."
