Bosque Gardens at the Battery debuts after $8.5m restoration.

After a year-long extensive restoration to the Battery's historic waterfront park Waterfront Park can refer to any of a number of parks on a river or other body of water, including:
  • Tom McCall Waterfront Park along the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon.
  • Louisville Waterfront Park along the Ohio River in Louisville, Kentucky, which opened in 1999.
at the tip of the Manhattan, the Battery Bosque (Spanish for 'grove of trees') will debut in early June offering a fabulous one-of-a-kind oasis to Downtown residents, business people and tourists alike.

Almost two years ago, The Battery Conservancy in conjunction with the City's Parks & Recreation Department selected Saratoga Associates to be the landscape architects for the project. The $8.5 million restoration is part of the $25 million Downtown Open Space Initiative funded by the Lower Manhattan Lower Manhattan is the southernmost part of the island of Manhattan, the main island and center of business and government of the City of New York. Lower Manhattan is generally defined as the area delineated on the north by Chambers Street, on the west by the Hudson River (North  Development Corporation at the urging of Mayor Bloomberg and Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe.

"We are very excited that the Bosque is finally about to open so people can enjoy it," said Laura Starr, the Saratoga Principal who has directed the project design team. "Just behind Battery Park's bustling waterfront Promenade, the Bosque is a quieter, social retreat with soft surface footpaths and undulating gardens under the canopy of mature London Plane Noun 1. The opening of the Bosque represents a major milestone in the ongoing restoration of Battery Park led by The Battery Conservancy and their dynamic President Warrie Price. "Warrie deserves the credit for forming the vision, building the partnerships and making things happen at the Battery," said Starr. "Her energy and drive for excellence make good design possible."

The Bosque completes the next stage of over nine years of work to implement the master plan to beautify the entire 23-acre Battery Park.
