Bose Corporation selects I-DEAS Master Series Software for mechanical design of audio products.

MILFORD, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 20, 1996--Structural Dynamics Research Corporation Dynamics Research Corporation (NASDAQ: DRCO) is a United States-based publicly held defense contractor.

DRC was founded in 1955 by a small group of engineers from the Charles Stark Draper Laboratory of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

) announced today that Bose Corporation The Bose Corporation is a privately-held American company based in Framingham, Massachusetts that specializes in audio equipment[2][3] and holds the philosophy of supporting its technological development through research (thus the company motto). , a global leader in audio technology development, has selected I-DEAS Master Series(TM) CAD/CAM/CAE software for use in the mechanical design of various Bose products including home audio systems and professional sound systems. The $130,000 in orders for I-DEAS(TM) software were booked in the first quarter of 1996.

Bose has used the I-DEAS software for approximately two years in its electronic systems group, most recently to design the console of the company's new Lifestyle 20 music system. The design team's challenge was to fit an AM/FM AM/FM Amplitude Modulation / Frequency Modulation

tuner and six-disc CD player into a space that previously held only a single-disc CD player. Utilizing I-DEAS' solid modeling capabilities in conjunction with other I-DEAS applications modules, Bose designers met their objective.

"We chose SDRC after a nine-month evaluation effort," notes Chet Williams, senior engineer, at Bose. "We examined every detail of our mechanical product design process, criticizing it and attempting to improve it. Based on that effort, we developed a set of CAD/CAM/CAE software requirements which were used as the basis for our software evaluation."

Bose's selection process, says Williams, "included a side-by-side shoot-out with another leading CAD/CAM/CAE software supplier. In the end, the comparison showed that I-DEAS Master Series was by far the easiest and most flexible tool that we've seen. Based on our prior positive experience with I-DEAS in our electronic systems group, and the results of this evaluation, we are now moving toward standardizing most aspects of our mechanical product design activities using I-DEAS."
