Borthwick's pain a big motivator; COUNTDOWN TO SIX NATIONS Six nations ROUND-UP.


ENGLAND: Steve Borthwick Stephen William Borthwick (born 12 October 1979 in Carlisle) is an English rugby union footballer who plays lock for Bath and England. He has established himself among the best line-out jumpers in England. He is 6'6" and over 17st.  yesterday reflected on the pain of leading England through a dismal autumn campaign - and demanded his side "put the record straight" in the Six Nations.

England head into tomorrow's championship opener against Italy at home on the back of a hat-trick of thumping home defeats to Australia (28-14), South Africa (42-6) and New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland.  (32-6).

"The autumn was a tough experience. There were some bitter disappointments and I took the losses personally," said Borthwick.

"We can't take too many emotions forward because there is a new challenge ahead - but we weren't good enough in the autumn, we didn't perform to our best and we let ourselves down."
