Borsu is back in the running.

Byline: By Bill McGuirk

Olympic 400 metres hurdles ace Anthony Borsumato, battling back to fitness after breaking his left ankle in last year's Paris World Championships, made a welcome appearance at the North Eastern Athletics League meeting at Monkton Stadium.

competed in the flat 400 metres and came away with a satisfactory performance.

Borsumato, quickly back into his stride in an international meet in Spain on Sunday, said: "That was my second race since the accident in France and I have to admit it's been a hard battle getting back to some form of fitness.

"It was a good opportunity to see where I stand at the moment and, though I would have liked to run quicker, I have to be patient and hopefully I can build on it." Borsumato won in a time of 49.8sec, a time slower than his best time over hurdles.

But he is confident he can regain his international status in the near future.

However, hurdling will not be an option this season for the former English Schools' champion.
